Summary/Concept
In OCCUPY LOVE, Velcrow Ripper shows that events such as the Arab Spring and Occupy protests reveal a growing cry for universal connection. Velcrow mixes in iPhone photographs and video clips of graffiti hearts to demonstrate the universal need to express and share love. Hearts will become the main story-telling vehicle across all platforms. It is through the hearts that we will communicate our message, connect to each other and capture this global awakening as the greatest love story of our time.
FOUND LOVE, a global photo sharing application and web gallery, focuses on capturing and geo-tagging “found” heart images with moods and stories that describe love and interdependence.
It offers viewers a chance to find and share their own “found hearts,” helping to extend the film’s central message and providing an outlet for the emotion captured in Ripper’s film to new audiences.
Users can take a photo of a heart-shaped image they find in the world, add a message, and then upload their expression of love to a vast, visually stunning timeline and geochart of other “found hearts” from around the world.
Translating the simple act of taking photos of found hearts, the FOUND LOVE project taps into people’s creative side and becomes a meaningful real-time exercise in joint collaboration. Once users have tapped into this experience, their behaviour may also shift: they will begin to see hearts everywhere they walk, collecting, creating and sharing. We believe that this new awareness of “found hearts” will, in turn, help in a small way create an increased ethical openness. Public or civic love, which the Occupy movement symbolizes for Ripper, is about realizing a universal need for connection. FOUND LOVE will help document, express, and encourage a reverence for universal connection and interdependence.
