Velcro Ripper explores activism around the world, from Cairo to Calgary, Wall Street to Madrid, in the latest instalment of his Fierce Love Trilogy, after Scared Sacred (2004) and Fierce Light (2008). It shows the depths of the challenges our planet faces and the incredible spirit of transformation that is rising all around it. Watching this documentary makes one realize that economic crises are inseparable from ecological disasters. Economies try to keep going by abusing nature and then pretend that climate change isn’t happening. “Today,” Ripper warns, “the entire planet is on the verge of becoming a Ground Zero.” The only solution is a different kind of revolution, toward which the world may be advancing in small, experimental steps that are proving contagious. It’s people’s hunger for a kind of justice that doesn’t necessarily look for an evil to fight against, but instead demands a better world.
